Porpuse: This study aims to analyze the state of the art of the international scientific literature on the Creative Economy (CE) and Sustainable Development (SD). Methodology: The study was conducted through an exploratory bibliometric analysis using the Web of Science and Scopus databases. The time frame covers the period from 1997 to 2025, comprising a population of 872 articles and a final sample of 540 publications. Main results: The findings indicate that the earliest publications on CE and SD were concentrated in the United Kingdom, which hosted the seminal studies and whose influence remains significant in the contemporary literature. From 2002 onward, a process of geographical decentralization of research can be observed, with the inclusion of countries such as the United States, Australia, Indonesia, and Spain. China stands out as the country with the strongest growth in publication volume, presenting a network of authors that is relatively independent from European and North American traditions and characterized by a strong focus on innovation. The topic shows substantial growth from 2017 onward, positioning itself as a field in consolidation, with emphasis on innovation, creative tourism, and creative cities. Academic contributions: This study contributes to the systematization of a still fragmented body of literature by organizing scientific production and highlighting trends, gaps, and theoretical convergences, reinforcing the Creative Economy as a potentially central element in new models of sustainable development. Practical contributions: The research provides valuable insights for policymakers, managers, and funding institutions by supporting the planning of actions and strategies aimed at promoting creative, sustainable, and territorially integrated economies.
