Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to conduct a bibliographic review regarding the main facial injuries found in victims of motorcycle accidents, raising awareness among the population about the risks of fractures, as well as emphasizing the importance of using safety equipment and responsible driving. Methodology: This study followed a conceptual-analytical method, as concepts and data related to the objectives were used to build a scientific analysis of the study’s subject. To carry out this review, a search was conducted in the PubMed, CAPES Journals, and SciELO databases. The research was limited to articles in English and Portuguese, published between 2015 and 2024. Results: In Brazil, among the victims of these accidents, motorcyclists stand out compared to others. Men are victims in 89% of these cases, 65% of whom are aged between 20 and 39 years. Among the survivors of motorcycle accidents, motor, psychological, and mutilation sequelae are observed. Conclusion: Finally, it is concluded that motorcycle accidents are considered one of the major challenges in controlling maxillofacial trauma. Therefore, it is evident that new public policies need to be implemented, focusing on educating drivers, enforcing laws, and increasing strict supervision so that motorcyclists become aware of traffic violations and the proper use of protective equipment, such as helmets.
