Abstract

It reports the experience of a clinical case presented during a scientific meeting in a hospital, observing whether the decision to operate on the patient would be the best course of action and whether this had been shared with the patient or merely consented to, re-discussing the therapeutic options. Shared decision-making is perhaps one of the biggest challenges in clinical practice. Sharing a decision involves not only presenting the patient with the risks and benefits of treatment, but also taking into account individual preferences and values and the circumstances surrounding the case. It is necessary to identify each patient as an individual within a unique scenario, dividing powers and responsibilities.
