Exchanges between consonants in the writing of elementary school students - final years of Porto Velho/RO

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the relationship between orality and writing, the exchanges of consonants that represent the voiced/unvoiced opposition (voiced and devoiced traces) in the essays written by students in the 6th year of middle school. We are interested in the process of sounding and devoicing in the writing of these apprentices. This quantitative and qualitative study has been methodologically organized into four stages, which are: collecting and organizing texts to compose a research corpus; collecting and organizing data on the exchange between voiceless and voiced consonants; reviewing the theoretical framework on phonetics, phonology, orthography, distinctive features, and syllabic structure; and analyzing the collected data. After analyzing the essays, 11 exchanges were identified, with the substitution of voiced sounds for voiceless ones being the most frequent. This research is based on studies of various authors concerning writing, speaking, and shifts between voiced and voiceless sounds. With this study, we hope to establish a dialogue between phonetics, phonology, and writing, so that it contributes to the linguistic understanding of Portuguese language students and teachers.
