Coronectomy is a surgical technique indicated for the partial extraction of impacted third molars, especially when there is a high risk of injury to the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN). This technique involves removing the tooth's crown, leaving the roots intact in the socket, thus preserving the integrity of the IAN. The procedure involves sectioning the tooth's crown at the cementoenamel junction, preserving the roots in the socket, as long as they remain stable and inactive. During surgery, it is essential to avoid exposing the pulp tissue and perform adequate postoperative monitoring to detect possible complications, such as infection, root migration, or persistent pain.
