Abstract

In august, the global death toll from COVID-19 surpassed three million. During this period, according to the World Health Organization, the global outlook suggested that the pandemic was still following a steep upward curve, with approximately 10,000 COVID-19-related deaths per day - occurring primarily in Brazil and India. The impacts of COVID-19 are numerous and significant. The pandemic brought the general public closer to the scientific community. The volume of scientific publications and the rapid advancement of knowledge on the subject - combined with the development of vaccines in record time - demonstrate the excellence of current global scientific research, a standard built over years of study and cumulative investment as part of an ongoing process. The post-COVID-19 era holds new challenges for the entire world, a time when science will play a central role in everyone's lives, more than ever before.
