Abstract

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery owes a fundamental part of its scientific identity to the pioneering work of René Le Fort (1869-1951). In 1901, by publishing his experiments on facial fractures, Le Fort established a milestone in the history of craniofacial traumatology, creating a classification model that became universal. Remembering René Le Fort is to recognize the importance of careful research and systematic observation as pillars of progress in health. More than a century after his publications, his legacy remains alive, reminding us that well-founded science transcends eras and remains essential for the evolution of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
