Conservative approach to extensive odontogenic keratocyst in pediatric patient: case report

Abstract

Objective: To report the conservative approach to an extensive odontogenic keratocyst in a pediatric patient, highlighting the effectiveness of marsupialisation followed by cystectomy in preserving important anatomical structures. Case Report: A pediatric patient presented with an extensive odontogenic keratocyst involving the body, ramus, coronoid process, and condyle of the right mandible. Initial treatment consisted of marsupialisation for 11 months, followed by cystectomy. A significant reduction in cystic lesion volume was observed, with bone formation in adjacent areas and preservation of important structures, including the mandibular condyle and inferior alveolar nerve, there by maintaining bone continuity. Conclusion: Marsupialisation followed by cystectomy proved an effective conservative therapeutic approach, enabling lesion reduction, preservation of important anatomical structures, and avoidance of secondary bone reconstruction.
