LIBRAS VISUAL: proposal of a didactic material for teaching LIBRAS as L2

Abstract

This article aims to present didactic material designed for teaching LIBRAS as a second language (L2) as
well as to reflect and share the experience of producing materials in this area of activity. The need to
produce material comes from the students' perception and expositions about the difficulties they face when
learning a language in a different modality and the least contact with LIBRAS users, being restricted many
times only to meetings once or twice a week in the classroom. To better understand the reason for talking
about the didactic material in the teaching of LIBRAS, we make a brief contextualization about the
beginning of Libras, the materials (or lack thereof) for teaching Libras as well as the process of elaborating
the didactic material LIBRAS-Visual aimed at teaching that language as L2. This article aims to present

considered in its creation process, as well as opened space for students to make suggestions and notes
about this work methodology. Finally, we concluded that, even with some points to be improved, the
material was important for the students as well as for those responsible for its production as teaching
professionals.
