Dossier: “Contemporary Perspectives and Challenges in the Sociology of Sport”
The dossier aims to receive contributions that traverse the multiple dimensions of the field. We encourage works that:
✔️Revisit the fundamentals of the area, exploring the classic intersections between sport, history, politics, and economics;
✔️Critically analyze the process of “sportification” of physical culture.
✔️Investigate and deepen the social manifestations of sport, addressing issues of gender, ethnicity, sexuality, and social class;
✔️Address tensions between competitive sport, leisure, and physical education in schools.
✔️Relate sport to the media and the phenomenon of fans, the local and global impacts of mega sporting events, the dynamics of globalization, and corruption in the sporting world.
✔️Address Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) and social projects.
✔️Present emerging themes such as adventure sports, dual careers, and the relationship between sport and the environment.
Finally, the dossier will value epistemological discussions on methods and methodologies and the state of the art of Sociology of Sport in Brazil and worldwide, aiming to strengthen research networks and the production of critical and original knowledge.
